I’m an average goat...

This is a line from a children’s book I used to read to my kids when they were little.

It always stuck with me and I even adopted it as my own little moniker:

Dave Noonan, just an average goat.

And I suppose it stuck with me because I’ve always felt that way.

Not really great at anything in particular but not terrible, either.

Decent student but far from the top of the class.  OK athlete but never the star of the team.

Solid career in sales but far from taking over the business world.

An average goat.

While I always said this in a light-hearted way, it was definitely rooted in a sense that this was my destiny.  A life sentence or inescapable reality that I’d been, and would probably always be, pretty much mediocre.

And in reaching middle age I’ve started to revisit this comfortable, limiting phrase through a new and more empowering lens.  To look at being an average goat as a starting point instead of a destination or dead end street.  To see it as a gift.  A blessing.  A chance to really start, no matter how old I am, to see how much I can learn and how far I can take things.

An average goat.

Because, the more I look around, there are average goats literally EVERYWHERE accomplishing incredible things.  I mean, we focus on the geniuses and freaks of nature but the world is literally filled with average goats doing far from average things.  In fact, I’ve done so much more than I could have imagined 20, 10 or even just 5 years ago...what else might be possible for an average goat?

That's what this site is designed to document and explore: ways to embrace average as a superpower to fully realize your own definition of success and greatness.

Are YOU an average goat?
